Why Some Devices Are Not Supported
Integrated Control Planes (Dream Machines & Cloud Gateways)
A defining characteristic of UniFi Cloud Gateways and Dream Machines (UDM, UDR, UCG, EFG) is the integration of the UniFi Network application into the hardware's operating system. These devices are engineered to be their own master control nodes. They cannot be "slaved" or placed into a bridge/AP mode to be adopted by a centralized self-hosted controller, as they enforce their own Network controller instances. (Note: The only exceptions are the UniFi Express (UX) devices, which feature a software-defined control plane that can be completely disabled via "Access Point Only" mode).
Hardware Appliance Dependencies (Protect, Access, Talk, Connect)
The self-hosted standalone UniFi OS Server is restricted to running the UniFi Network application. Hardware belonging to other UniFi verticals (Protect cameras and NVRs, Access door controls, Talk telephony, and Connect/Drive appliances) cannot be adopted. They require the presence of a localized, proprietary UniFi Console (like a UDM-Pro, UNVR, or CloudKey Gen2+) because their storage formats, real-time proprietary protocols, and required I/O are not available on third-party servers.
End-of-Life (EOL) / Legacy and Vintage Equipment
EOL or legacy devices are not supported. There's also Vintage devices, which are not being manufactered anymore, but they still receive updates, these devices are supported. You can find a full list here: https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500001268521-Ubiquiti-s-Vintage-and-Legacy-Products
Different Firmware Platforms
EdgeRouter/EdgeSwitch devices run on EdgeOS, while AirMAX devices (AirFiber, sector antennas, stations) run AirOS and use UNMS/UISP. These are completely different operating systems and management platforms designed for advanced routing or WISP operators, respectively, and cannot be managed by the UniFi Network application.
