How we store and manage your data at UniHosted
As a managed service provider hosting UniFi controllers in the cloud for our customers, UniHosted places a high priority on handling customer data with care.
In this guide, we will explain how we store and manage your data.
Let's dive in!
🚨 Before we dive in, please don't self-host your UniFi Controller if you take care of client networks. Sooner or later this will cause issues! It's fine for home users, but definitely not recommended for IT service businesses and MSPs. If you want secure, reliable and a scalable hosting solution check out UniHosted.

Types of Data We Store
The UniFi controllers we run consist of a MongoDB database, which contains a wealth of information about your network.
However, unlike conventional setups, we only transfer a limited amount of that information to our servers, such as the number of devices your network has. We require this data for billing purposes.
This information is managed by our backend, stored in our database, and shared with our payment processor, Stripe, for invoice generation.
Data Retention
All other data remains on the server with the exception of backups. These backups are stored in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 storage for a duration of one month, after which we purge them from our system.
Regarding personal identifiable information, we retain the following:
- User's first name
- Email address
- Password (hashed)
- The source from where the user heard about UniHosted (Social Source)
Security and Server Information
We prioritize managing data responsibly. Our servers operate on serverless functions on AWS infrastructure, utilizing Vercel's cloud platform. This setup provides robust security and assurance that your data is in good hands.
In summary, at UniHosted, we’re committed to transparently manage, store, and protect your data. Should you have any further inquiries regarding our data management, feel free to contact us. We’re always here to help.
