About WiFi Channels
WiFi channels are frequency ranges used for wireless communication. Different countries have different regulations regarding which channels can be used, at what power levels, and in what environments (indoor vs outdoor).
Channel Types
- 2.4 GHz: The original WiFi band, channels 1-13 (14 in some regions)
- 5 GHz: Higher frequency band with more channels and less interference
- 6 GHz: Newest band with many more channels, available in select countries
Channel Widths
- 20 MHz: Standard width
- 40 MHz: Bonded channels for higher throughput
- 80 MHz: Even wider channels for 802.11ac
- 160 MHz: Maximum width for 802.11ac/ax in most regions
Indoor vs Outdoor Usage
Many countries have different regulations for indoor and outdoor WiFi usage. Some channels may only be permitted for indoor use, while others may be restricted entirely in certain regions.
This database is particularly useful for network administrators deploying UniFi equipment in multiple countries or regions, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
